Halloween or All Souls Day? (“Li Molti e Molti”)

Tradition at Arzachena on All Saints’ Day

Halloween? In Gallura we use to say All Souls’ Day, in local dialect “Li Molti e Molti”.  Every year between 1st and 2nd  November  during the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days  funny rituals for children and local typical autumn dishes are set up .

According to tradition, at Arzachena and in many villages of  Gallura county all kids run around door to door  to  collect  candies, dried fruit and some cash in honour of all the dead. Should you hear ring the bell during these days, just get a handful of candies ready, some chocolates and cookies for the    trick-or-treaters .

Do not miss the amusing creative workshop Halloween in the library.

For adults the most interesting event relates to Food. The beginning of autumn is  characterized by a typical local dish called “Carri, cogghju e foddha”.

It is a traditional pork and kale stew cooked together with boiled or roasted chestnuts.

But the Halloween made in USA has spread all over the world and it has come also to town.  Coffee shops, restaurants and discos of Arzachena and the nearby villages of Cannigione and Porto Cervo organize theme parties, food tasting and night fancy-dress ball.
